WHY HELP BY GIVING TO THE HOUSE OF GOD?

Giving  reflects a grateful and appreciative heart that wants to give back to God a portion of what He has given us; in reality all what we own, belongs to God . This is our opportunity to show God that He is first in our lives. The Bible says, So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of [a]necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.

(2 Corinthians 9:7). Offering to the house of God is a reminder that God is the supplier of everything we have. It is also God’s personal invitation to an outpouring of his blessing in your life.

SEVEN GOOD REASONS TO GIVE BACK TO GOD

1. Giving is a Reflection of a good Heart:

Matthew 6:20-21 “but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (NKJV)

2. Giving is a Reflection of Priorities:

From the beginning of times mankind practiced giving to God. The story of Cain and Abel, is well known to use from the Bible. They both brought an offering to the Lord. Abel brought the “firstborn of his flock,” while Cain brought “some of the fruits of the soil.” The Lord blessed Abel’s offering, but rejected Cain’s. God wants to be first in our lives.

Luke 6:38 “Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.” (NKJV)

3. Giving is a Privilege:

The Apostles in the 1st Century church showed us what it means to give generously and joyfully. By selling their possessions and donated to the church, they were able to establish the church then, and build their communities by supporting each other.

Acts 2:44-45 Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, and [d]sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need. (NKJV)

4. Giving is a Blessing:

By giving to those who are in need, we are investing in God’s blessings. God uses our giving as an investment where everyone involved gets a return. Thru the blessings we receive from God, He expects us to bless others, because God’s nature is to also bless the giver.

Malachi 3:10 “‘Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,” Says the Lord of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it.’” (NKJV)

5. Our giving can be a measurement of our faith:

Some people hold back from giving when things get tough: According to the wisdom of the world, it would certainly make sense to stop tithing or giving to the church and save as much money as possible to take care of our families. God will see our faith in giving, and answer our trust in His ability to provide abundant blessings.

Ephesians 4:7 But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift. (NKJV)

6. Giving is an outward sign of our love for others:

This is a straightforward and honest assessment of those who claim to love others but do not do what they can to help them. There are no specific conditions or stipulations laid down here, simply a matter of the heart.

1 John 3:17 But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him? (NKJV)

7. Greed can lead to our downfall:

If we give freely we are blessed by God – It's not in material blessings returned to us, it's through God’s love being shined out through our lives. However, if we turn a blind eye to the needs of others, we are in essence denying our responsibility to be the hands and feet of Jesus in this world.

Proverbs 28:27 He who gives to the poor will not lack, But he who hides his eyes will have many curses. (NKJV)
